Preparation of the patient for OGTT

Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is performed to diagnose diabetes mellitus or impaired glucose tolerance. The test lasts for 2 hours and is conducted in the morning.

To properly prepare for the test, follow these guidelines:
• Consume a high-carbohydrate diet (more than 150g per day) for 3 days before the test.
• Avoid taking medications that affect glucose metabolism for 4 days before the test (consult with your doctor).
• Do not eat, smoke, or engage in strenuous physical activity for 12 hours before the test.
• Rest for 30 minutes before the test.
